Daily video consumption has grown 23.3% in 2015 and it will grow 19,8% till the end of 2016 according to Online Video Forecast. 67% of Turkish audience are watching live stream videos online. 53% of them are interested in watching entertainment videos and 41% are interested in breaking news stories.

Video Streaming has been one big trend in recent years with different topics and continuous its tremendous evolvement. The way that people watch videos has changed by the technology and platforms, so does the video production phenomenon. Live streaming, short form videos and vertical videos are the hottest topics within the trends.

Live Streaming

Turkey’s political instability sets up the stage for Netizen Journalists* and Turkey has become one of the biggest follower of live streaming with 67% versus 52% of global rate. During Gezi Park protests and coup attempt, many of the people has live streamed the current conflicts which people haven’t seen on news channels. Brands are aware of this phenomenon, use the power of live stream at a product launch or a live event. Snapchat and Instagram Stories are emerging marketing trends among brands and it seems that in the last quarter of 2016 and 2017, we will see successful examples and best practices.

Short Form Video

When it comes to daily video trends in Turkey people prefer to watch short form videos on platforms such as Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook. There will always be a place for long form videos in the market but in 2016, 98% of people who spend less than an hour on social media have watched a short form video and 60% of them have posted at least one. A very strong fact found by Microsoft is that human attention span has decreased to only 8 seconds. This means it’s below the attention span of a goldfish. So this has been another challenge for marketers to overcome and the solution is to follow short form video guidelines by producing videos where you have 5 sec. to grab the attention.
